A senior officer with the economic crime unit of the Dubrowna district police department has been arrested on suspicion of bribery.
The police major was seized after accepting a $150 bribe from an unemployed man in exchange for more lenient punishment against him in a scrap metal smuggling case, Alyaksandr Sidarovich, deputy prosecutor of the Vitsyebsk region, told BelaPAN.
The crime was detected by the police's internal security service and Main Department for Fight against Organized Crime and Corruption, he said.
