Activists of the "For Fair Elections" campaign launched by 14 pro-democratic parties and other groups plans to nominate 500 people for membership in precinct election commissions for Belarus’ presidential vote scheduled for December 19, Viktar Karnyayenka, deputy head of the Movement for Freedom, told reporters in Minsk on Friday.
"We will nominate 500 famous and reputable people to whom the authorities will find it difficult to explain their non-inclusion in the commissions,"Mr. Karnayenka said.
Campaign activists also plan to deploy around 1000 observers to monitor the voting process at precinct election commissions.
Mr. Karnyayenka expressed confidence that the team would give "an absolutely clear picture of the electoral process." At some polling stations, campaign activists will conduct "round-the-clock observation to watch what is taking place there," he said.
