UCP nominates 296 representatives to precinct elections commissions

The United Civic Party (UCP) nominated 296 representatives to precinct elections commissions for the forthcoming House of Representatives elections, UCP Chairman Anatol Lyabedzka told BelaPAN on Tuesday.

According to him, as many as 120 people were nominated to precinct election commissions in the city of Minsk, 68 in the Homyel region, 36 in the Mahilyow region, 24 in the Minsk region, 15 in the Brest region, 10 in the Vitsyebsk region, and 23 people were nominated to precinct commissions in the Hrodna region.

Mr. Lyabedzka said that the party didn’t consider this nomination process important. "We realize what kind of elections we are facing. It was significant for us that much fewer of our representatives were included in district commissions than during the previous elections," he said. "The authorities thereby clearly showed their goals and objectives regarding these elections. So we don’t expect many of our nominees to be granted membership on precinct election commissions."

"Having our representatives on precinct commissions is not a priority," Mr. Lyabedzka said. "We regard these elections as part of our campaign for ‘fair elections without Lukashenka.’ That’s why the task confronting our people on precinct commissions is just to monitor voter turnout."

The House of Representatives elections will be held in late September.
