Belarus President Aliaksandr Lukashenka will run re-election at the presidential elections in 2020. "I will put my candidature forward at the upcoming election. But if people express their categorical objection, I will not argue, yet I will be a bit frustrated of course," Mr. Lukashenka said on Sunday talking to reporters after casting his ballot to vote at the parliamentary elections.
The exact date of the presidential election is yet to be set but it cannot be held later than late August 2020 under the law.
Aliaksandr Lukashenka will end his fifth term in the office of the president in 2020.
He also made a comment on the next after 2020 presidential election in 2025:
"I may not have survived till 2025 [crossing himself]. I would still love to live and see how small children will be growing. I will not hold to the presidential chair with my dark fingers. Believe me, this chair is not so soft."
