Rapprochement with EU in full bloom: Belarus FM invited to Poland
Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski invited his Belarusian counterpart Uladzimir Makey to visit Warsaw.

The invitation was extended when Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alena Kupchyna met with Ambassador of Poland to Belarus Konrad Pawlik in Minsk on Wednesday.

During the meeting the sides also discussed matters concerning the intensification of Belarusian-Polish cooperation, news agency BelTA reports.

In March 2016, Witold Waszczykowski came to Belarus. It was the first visit of Poland’s Foreign Minister to our country after eight-year cooling in relations.

In the course of his visit to Belarus, Witold Waszczykowski laid flowers on the graves of the killed by Stalin’s executioners, visited a Polish visa centre in Minsk, met with his Belarusian counterpart Uladzimir Makey and held talks with president Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

According to Witold Waszczykowski, it is not normal that Belarus and Poland have not been talking to each other for many years, keeping in mind that they are neighbors. “This is why we have decided to start a dialogue without any preconditions to settle all the issues of our neighborly relations as soon as possible,” he told the Belarusian leader in March.

In turn, Alyaksandr Lukashenka promised to do his best so that there would be ‘no less democracy in Belarus than in Poland’
