Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski is expected to visit Belarus in the latter half of March.
Speaking about his ministry’s performance in the first 100 days after Poland’s presidential election,
Mr. Waszczykowski said that he wanted to go to Belarus by car and visit Minsk and his mother’s native city, according to Belsat TV, a Warsaw-based Belarusian-language television channel.
“I don’t want this to be merely a courtesy call lasting several hours,” Mr. Waszczykowski said. “I want to go there by car, get to Minsk and also the places where the Poles of Belarus live. I also want to visit the city where my mother was born.”
Mr. Waszczykowski expressed hope that Belarus would resume fully fledged cooperation with the European Union, relying on Poland as a mediator.
Mr. Waszczykowski emphasized the need for rapprochement with Belarus, describing relations with the country as “not tense but poorly tuned and unstable.”
