Austria set to establish embassy in Minsk

Austria has decided to establish an embassy in Belarus, Dmitry Mironchyk, spokesman for the Belarusian foreign ministry, said at Thursday’s briefing.

The decision was made this past May, while Sebastian Kurz, Austria`s federal minister for Europe, integration and foreign affairs, was staying in Minsk, Mr. Mironchyk said.

The ministry’s delegation is expected to visit Minsk on September 29 and 30 to discuss organizational and other issues relating to the planned establishment of the embassy, he said.

The delegation will be led by Michael Zimmermann, director general of the management section of the federal ministry for Europe, integration and foreign affairs, Mr. Mironchyk said. Mr. Zimmermann is scheduled to have a meeting with Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Alena Kupchyna.
