Alyaksandr Lukashenka has not made the final decision about the allocation of a Russian military air base on the territory of Belarus yet. The consultations are over but military men are working on more effective ways of protecting the state border now.
Minister of Defence Andrei Raukou announced it at a seminar organized for the republican mass media, ONT reports.
Andrei Raukou: “What sense is there in the allocation of an air base on the territory of Belarus? There is no sense in it at the moment. Our neighbours , namely the newly-elected President of Poland, are asking NATO to place four different military bases close to the Belarusian border. We should probably get some annihilation weapons in order to hit the objects when necessary. It would be much more effective than allocating an air base here.”
The allocation of a Russian air base in Belarus has drawn a wide response. Vladimir Putin has already signed the agreement, Russian mass media report. Meanwhile, Alyaksandr Lukashenka has said many times that he has not the document yet.
