Makei: Russian airbase in Belarus no longer on agenda

Euroradio

The issue of placing of the Russian military air base in Belarus is not on the agenda. This was announced at a press conference in Moscow by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Uladzimir Makei.

"In any case, if need be, we can return to this issue, but for now, it seems to us that there is no sense to discuss the issue of placeming Russian military bases in Belarus, RIA Novosti quoted Makei. Currently, the issue is not on the agenda."

According to the minister, if the "relevant circumstances" change,we will have to take "some appropriate response measures."

As Euroradio reported earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin already on September 18, 2015 gave an order to sign the "Agreement between Russia and Belarus on Establishment of Russian Air Base in Belarus." After that Aliaksandr Lukashenka has repeatedly said that we will not have any Russian military base in Belarus, since we simply do not need it.
