The Russian President’s press secretary Dmitri Peskov has refused to comment on Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s statement about the allocation of a Russian air base in Belarus.
“To tell you the truth, I am not ready to comment on it because it is necessary to verify the subject matter first. We will be able to say something afterwards,” ria.ru quotes Peskov.
Lukashenka made a number of statements addressing Minskers during his yesterday’s visit to Minsk Ring Road-2. He knows nothing about the plans to allocate a Russian air base in Belarus and is offended because the Russian authorities are providing such information to mass media, the President said. Belarus does not need a foreign air base now, Lukashenka claimed.
Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered to sign an agreement on the allocation of a Russian military air base in Belarus earlier. The Russian Ministry of Defense and the MFA were supposed to negotiate with Belarus and sign the agreement for Russia.
