Belarus uses all possible diplomatic means to liberate its citizens sentenced in Libya. This was stated by Minister of Justice Oleg Slizhevsky during an online conference on the BelTA website.
We remind, the four citizens of Belarus in Libya was sentenced to 10 years in prison for collaborating with the regime of Muammar Qaddafi. According to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, they arrived in Libya on contract to work on civilian targets and were arrested in August 2011 immediately after crossing the border, along with the citizens of Russia and Ukraine.
According to Slizhevsky between Belarus and Libya international treaties in the legal field are not signed, and co-operation is based on established diplomatic relations. Therefore, for the liberation of Belarusians diplomatic means are used, involving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus and the diplomatic mission in Libya.
"We hope, the problem situation will be resolved for the benefit of our citizens. There should be no doubt that the Belarusian state will do everything possible to help its citizens anywhere in the world", said the Minister of Justice.
