The average age of the aircraft operated by the Belarusian flag carrier Belavia slightly exceeds 11 years, BelTA learned from Belavia Director General Igor Cherginets at a press conference dedicated to Civil Aviation Workers' Day.
At present Belavia has 13 aircraft, with the average age at 11.2 years. “It is quite a good figure. Aircraft of Western manufacture can be operated forever, as a matter of principle. The notion of air worthiness is the only stumbling block. Aircraft can be used to transport passengers until they are 30-35 years old,” Igor Cherginets said.
In his words, Belavia's plans to upgrade the aircraft fleet have been disrupted by Western sanctions. “I think the average age of our aircraft fleet would have been about 5-7 years now. And the number of aircraft would have been different, too,” the executive added.
