Grodno prepares to welcome 10,000th visa-free tourist

The Augustow Canal Park, a visa-free travel zone in Grodno region, is gearing up to welcome the 10,000th visa-free tourist, local officials told the media.

About 9,600 foreign travelers have used the opportunity to visit this part of Belarus visa-free since last autumn.



“This week we expect the 10,000th tourist. We are clarifying who this person is and what checkpoint he/she is going to enter the country,” the officials said.

With the beginning of spring season, the number of visa-free tourists visiting the Augustow Canal and its surroundings has been growing.

From 10 to 16 April, the Augustow Canal Park was visited by about one thousand foreigners. About 700 people visited the park on Saturday, which is the new weekend record.

Visa-free travel to the Augustow Canal opened on 26 October. In February the city welcomed 5,000th tourist, and the numbers have been growing exponentially.

Grodno officials are actively preparing for high tourist season: they’ve recently announced that over 50 km of new biсycle routes being developed in the park. The routes are now being marked, info signs and maps are being installed for convenient navigation.
