The Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not exclude that visa-free stay for foreigners might be prolonged in future, the Ministry’s head Vladimir Makei said on 3 February.

“Life goes on. If we understand that the system functions, we will think of the ways to propose longer periods of visa-free stay for foreigners in Belarus”, Vladimir Makei said as he asnwered the question of a Russian journalist at a press conference for Belarusian and foreign media held by Belarus president on Friday.

He explained that MFA was advocating for a more liberal option – 10-15 days – but it was not possible at present because foreigners are required to register if they stay in Belarus for more than five days.

“So we decided not to break the existing order at once, and to move with small steps. 5 days is enough for business people to hold talks, and for tourists to see the sights“, the minister said.

Vladimir Makei added that it took over a year and a half to prepare the document about visa-free entry for citizens of 80 states, and Belarus wasn’t hiding its intentions from anybody.
