The authorities in Minsk have approved the traditional rally to Kurapaty, a memorial site in the suburbs of Belarusian capital with the graves of victims of mass executions by Stalin's secret police in the late 1930s. The street action will take place on October 30 and dedicated to mark Dziady, the day of remembering the dead anscestors. The rally will be organized by the Conservative Christian Party of Belarusian Popular Front.
Radio Svaboda reports the Minsk city adminstration has allowed the demonstrators to gather near the watch factory Luch at 11 a.m. The rally will proceed on the streets between 1130 and 1500 to the Kurapaty memorial. The action will culminate with a memorial service at 1700. Organizers call on members of the public to bring along white-red-white national flags, badges and posters. The participants will also carry a wooden cross to be mounted on the site of the memorial.
