Minsk city authorities sanctioned the march in memory of Chernobyl disaster victims.

The Chernobyl Path (Belarusian “Charnobylski Shliakh”), a commemorative march and rally on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, has been sanctioned by the Minsk city authorities and is to start near the Kastrychnik Cinema at 18:00 today, on April 26.

On April 8, the organizing committee applied for permission to hold the action. The activists asked the authorities to allow demonstrators to gather at the National Academy of Sciences at 18.00, march along Surhanava and Arlouskaya streets, hold a final rally and lay flowers to the memorial sign ‘To Victims Of Chernobyl’ at the church of Our Lady of Consolation.

The action is expected to finish at 21:00.

As the “EuroBelarus” Information Service earlier informed, this year Svetlana Alexievich, the first Belarusian Nobel Prize winner, is the honorary chairperson of the organising committee of the commemorative event.
