Construction of high-rise buildings in the center of Minsk will be banned, Pavel Luchinovich, the chairman of the architecture and town-planning committee at the Minsk City Hall, chief architect of Minsk, reported to President Alexander Lukashenko, BelTA has learned.
According to the chief architect, no sufficient attention was paid to the silhouette of the city before. “This silhouette is created through green territories and urban landscapes. We have analyzed the development in the city in light of our historical heritage, and decided to impose a ban on high-rise construction in the central part of the city,” Pavel Luchinovich said.
Alexander Lukashenko endorsed the idea and noted that modern skyscrapers should be part of the urban architecture, but in the form of individual accents. “We have built a few. We did not, however, oversaturate the city with these buildings. We need more buildings of, if you prefer, monumental architecture. It should be done wisely in order to make them a calling card of our city,” the President said.
