Belarus applied for the assessment of Astravets NPP by the IAEA (SEED mission), deputy chief engineer of the Belarusian NPP Uladzimir Horyn told Belarusian and Lithuanian journalists in April.
SEED missions assess the choice of building sites for nuclear power stations. “The SEED mission was planned. We did not set such a goal but we were obliged to invite a SEED mission and it will be done,” Horyn said. Belarusian and Lithuanian ecological organizations have urged to invite an IAEA mission to assess the choice of the building site for Astravets NPP many times, BelaPAN reports.
A 330-ton reactor of the Belarusian NPP collapsed from the height of 2-4 metres on July 10, mass media reported on July 25. The general contractor – a Russian group of companies ASE – refuted the information. The Belarusian Ministry of Energy partially confirmed the reports.
