Investigative Committee is investigating a criminal case involving corruption launched against the former Minister of Trade Valyantsin Chakanau.
Actions of the suspect fall under part 3 of Article 426 of the Criminal Code (abuse of power and official authority), the site of the Investigative Committee reports. The former Minister was detained and placed under arrest. He may be punished with imprisonment for the term from 3 to 10 years with or without confiscation of property.
Valyantsin Chakanau has headed the Ministry of Commerce since 2009.
Investigative Committee is also investigating a criminal case against former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Vasil Pivavar, launched based on results of the inspection carried out by KGB officers.
The man is being accused of committing a crime under part 3 of the Article 424 of the Criminal Code (abuse of power or official authority). He was also taken into custody. The penalty for this article provides imprisonment for a term of 3 to 10 years with or without confiscation of property.
Vasil Pivavar has been the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food since March 2015.
