Nobel Prize winner Svetlana Alexievich will use the money to quietly write new books.
"I use the award money to buy freedom. I write books for a long time, and that takes money - go around and print. Now I can work quietly without thinking how to earn money," said the Nobel laureate at a press conference on October 8.
Svetlana Alexievich was the first of the Belarusian citizens to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature. The award amounts to 953,000 dollars.
