Alyaksandr Lukashenka has, by his presidential edict, scheduled the next elections for local soviets for March 23, 2014.
The date is based on the deadlines for forming territorial election commissions and holding other events other prescribed by the constitution and the Electoral Code, according to the presidential press office.
The edict requires the central election commission to organize the local elections in accordance with its mandate and exercise supervision over the electoral process to ensure compliance with electoral regulations, the press office said.
Governmental agencies and other government organizations are to take measures within their competence to organize and conduct the elections.
The local election campaign is to be financed out of the state budget.
Belarus` previous elections for local soviets took place on April 25, 2010.
