Police seized “Thank God“ poster at rally in Babruisk

The incident happened at a rally on the occasion of the anniversary of the October Revolution.

A ceremony of laying flowers to the monument on the occasion of the 96th anniversary of the October Revolution took place in Lenin Square in Babruisk.

The ceremony was scheduled for 10:00. The column was headed by officials of the city executive committee. They were followed by members of the Babruisk branch of the Communist Party of Belarus who carried a flag, the local website babruysk.by reports.

No other flags or posters were noticed. The rally didn't attract many people – only about 200 people came. Most of them were representatives of the city authorities and local communists. Directors of some Babruisk-based enterprises came.



Babruisk resident Valery Aliakseyeu defused the tension. He raised a poster “Thank God” during the national anthem. The brave gesture didn't go unnoticed by police officers, who approached Aliakseyeu and tried to make him hide the poster. Trying to act quietly as the orchestra was playing, they stood in front of Aliakseyeu to hide him from the officials. After the anthem ended, they asked Aliakseyeu to show his passport and took him aside. The policemen went away after a short conversation.



"The president said that a revolution is a tragedy. Moreover, I think Lenin is Satan," Valery Aliakseyeu explains his actions.
