The Movement for Freedom hopes to become the driving force of efforts toward a united opposition and the selection of a single opposition candidate in the 2015 presidential election, Yury Hubarevich, deputy chairman of the organization, said at a conference in Homyel on October 14.

The opposition organization is expected to elect its leaders and outline its plan of action at a convention in Minsk this week.

Mr. Hubarevich said that the Movement for Freedom would also focus on expanding the network of pro-European organizations in the provinces and human rights work in the next few years.
He expressed certainty that the country’s fractured opposition could agree to pick a single candidate in the presidential poll. "We worked together with six organizations in the parliamentary elections, using the campaign to promote our ideas, attract new supporters, demonstrate the teams’ work. I believe that efforts to forge a united opposition front will be started by these organizations," he said.

Alyaksandr Milinkevich, leader of the Movement for Freedom, was the opposition’s single candidate in the 2006 presidential election.
