The People’s Program can become a platform that unites pro-democracy forces, Ihar Lyalkow, deputy chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front (BPF), said Wednesday in Minsk during a news conference at which the Movement of Freedom unveiled the program.
Mr. Lyalkow suggested that pro-democracy forces should not cease their work on a "package of reforms" and the People’s Program should be further developed for use during the next 2015 presidential election.
"I think everyone knows that there are, in general, no antagonistic views and irreconcilable contradictions among opposition forces. We have long had an ideological basis for unity," Mr. Lyalkow said. "Actually, there are two things that impede unity: the ambitions of certain leaders and the absence of a program that everybody could subscribe to, a program that does not contradict to the platforms different pro-democratic parties and organizations."
According to Mr. Lyalkow, the People’s Program can become such a platform.
Yuras Hubarevich, deputy chairman of the Movement for Freedom, pointed out that opposition forces should have a common candidate for the 2015 presidential election. "This is better than having 10 candidates, as was the case at the last election," he added.
"We want the ideas contained in the People’s Program to be used by the common opposition candidate if we really manage to have such a candidate in 2015," Mr. Hubarevich said.
