Russia's president Dmitry Medvedev on January 18 sent a letter to Alexander Lukashenka to explain Russia's position over the supplies of Russian crude oil to Belarus.
The letter was in respond to Alexander Lukashenka's letter on January 13. The content of the letter has not been revealed.
The Belapan news agency reminds that in his letter to Medvedev, Lukashenka expressed the position of Belarus over oil supplies. Lukashenka maintains that back in December 2009 the leaders of Russia and Belarus agreed that during the first two-three months of 2010 the crude oil would be supplied duty-free, while the two sides would use the time to reach a new deal. "However, the Russian Federation actually refused from the previous agreements and put forward conditions that are unacceptable", Lukashenka stressed.
The last round of Belarus-Russian talks on oil supplies took place on January 9 in Moscow and ended in impasse. A new date of negotiations is yet to be announced.
