Pershamaiski District Court of Minsk on November 2 rejected the petition of human rights defender Ales Belyatsky to change his measure of restraint and to conduct the trial in Belarusian language.

Judge Sergey Bondarenko explained that while choosing the measure of restraint the seriousness of the crime, which Byalyatski is accused of, was taken into account, according to BELTA.

In order to understand the human rights defender the court uses a translator for Byalyatski.

The criminal process against the head of Viasna Human Rights Center began on November 2, chaired by the judge of Pershamaiski District Court of Minsk Sergey Bondarenko. The process, however, takes place in the Maskouski District Court building, where there is more capacious room.

The trial is public, but journalists with photo and video equipment are not allowed to enter.
