Two Belarusians Jailed for 5-7 Days for Action of Solidarity

The actions of solidarity, held by the civil campaign "European Belarus" on October 21 in Minsk, at least three people were detained. This was reported in Minsk city executive committee. Two of them, Alexander Volontsevich and Sergei Chereviak, were sentenced to seven and five days of administrative arrest.

"The three most active participants were taken to the territorial police department of the city for the proceedings. Two of them had their administrative reports drawn up under Article 23.34 of the Administrative Code ("Violation of the order of organization or holding mass actions or picketing"). The detained are kept in the offenders’ Isolation Center of Minsk city executive committee pending the trial," said the police department.

Two young men were sentenced on Monday, October 24 in Minsk Central District Court, according to AFN.

On October 21, Minsk rally for the release of the opposition activists was suppressed. At the very first moments the police detained the coordinator of "European Belarus" Aliaksandr Volontsevich, trying to tell about presidential candidates Andrei Sannikov and Nikolai Statkevich, opposition leaders Dmitri Bondarenko and Dmitri Dashkevich, head of the human rights center "Viasna" Ales Beliatski and the other oppositionists condemned or being behind bars.
