It is possible for the Movement for Freedom to cooperate with the United Democratic Forces (UDF) during the next presidential election, the Movement's leader, Alyaksandr Milinkevich, said in an interview with BelaPAN.

"We haven't withdrawn from the UDF," Mr. Milinkevich said. "We will implement the UDF's decisions that are consistent with our goals. We're actually doing this. There're many things that did successfully together with the UDF and some things that we didn't participate in."

The Movement for Freedom and the UPF could work together in monitoring the election process and campaigning for freedom of information and against politically motivated persecution, Mr. Milinkevich said.

"The most important thing is to cooperate where possible," he said. "However, we should be under no illusions or imitate unity while we can't do anything together."

A real coalition should not be declarative or based on the principle of friendship against a common enemy, Mr. Milinkevich said. "Such a coalition can only be based on serious values," he stressed. "For me, these are democracy, independence and integration into Europe. Those who share them can become a serious political force. They would be united by what their hearts and souls say and not by some personalities or declarations."
