Alexander Lukashenka is scheduled to pay an official visit to Venezuela on March 16-17, reports the Russian news agency Ria-Novosti quoting Venzeuala's foreign minister Nicolas Maduro during the opening ceremony of the intergovernmental Belarusian-Venezuelan commission.

The Venezuelan top diplomat did not elaborate on the visit's agenda.

Belarus and Venezuela agreed to set up in mid 2010 two joint ventures on the production of trucks and tractors with the technology to be transferred to the Venezuelan side. Besides, the two countries agreed to invest nearly $8 billion into the oil drilling industry in the basin of Arinoco River by 2025.

The leaders of Venezuela and Belarus met last time in Minsk in September 2009.
