Government will not revise strategic domestic, foreign policy directions

The Belarusian government will not revise the strategic directions of its domestic and foreign policies because the country is on the right track, Alyaksandr Lukashenka said while meeting with Belarusian diplomats in Minsk on July 23.

Mr. Lukashenka stressed that the "timely targeted and flexible adjustment" of certain policies was needed by "such a young compact state like Belarus," according to the presidential press office.

The current global economic crisis will change the world’s balance of power, he predicted, adding that in the changing world order Belarus must "prove not only its wish and right to be an independent state but, which is much more difficult, also its ability to be such."

Mr. Lukashenka reportedly stressed that Belarus had started pursuing a multi-vector and dynamic foreign policy a few years ago. "And this is not a turn to the West, South of East, this is movement forward," he was quoted as saying.
He noted that Minsk sought to conduct a foreign policy that would ensure the country’s comprehensive security.
