Belarus unanimously elected to UNIDO Industrial Development Board in Vienna
Belarus was unanimously elected to the UNIDO Industrial Development Board for the fifth time during the plenary session of the General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Vienna on 1 December, BelTA learned from the Belarusian foreign mission in Austria.

UNIDO is the specialized agency of the United Nations that promotes inclusive and sustainable industrial development. UNIDO has 172 member states. Belarus has been its member since 17 June 1985. During the period of membership in UNIDO, a number of significant joint projects have been implemented in Belarus.

The Industrial Development Board is the principal body of UNIDO that provides operational guidance to the organization between sessions of the General Conference. It reviews the implementation of the work programme, the regular and operational budgets, makes recommendations to the General Conference on policy matters. The Board consists of 52 members elected by the General Conference for a term of 4 years.

Belarus will continue to take an active part in the work of UNIDO's governing bodies to strengthen UNIDO's leading role in promoting inclusive industrial development, increasing the competitiveness and environmental friendliness of production, introducing modern technologies and standards, and promoting sustainable industrial development in middle-income countries. In the context of UNIDO's work, efforts will be focused on the further expansion of UNIDO's programme activities in Belarus and the implementation of projects on the basis of the Cooperation Framework between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and UNIDO, taking into account the priorities of the socio-economic development of our country.
