Leanid Kuchma has arrived in Minsk. The former Ukrainian President has bene appointed Ukrainian representative in the Trilateral Contact Group for the settlement of the conflict in East Ukraine (he left the group in the autumn of 2018). Kuchma met with Alyaksandr Lukashenka on the morning of June 5. “Politics won’t let you go, Leanid Danilavich,” BELTA quotes the Belarusian President. “However, it is for the better.”

He and the majority of Belarusians are glad about Leanid Kuchma’s visit, Lukashenka stressed. “They know about my attitude to Belarus and our good relations,” the ex-President replied.

The Trilateral Contact Group will gather in Minsk on June 5. Kiev’s new suggestions will be presented there. Head of the Ukrainian Headquarters Ruslan Khamchak will arrive in Minsk, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenski announced earlier.

Minsk is “the only place where a normal dialogue is possible”, Kuchma told the Belarusian President. He is against moving the negations elsewhere. “I am very happy to visit Minsk and your wonderful country and meet the President whom I respect a lot,” Leanid Kichma said.

The ex-President of Ukraine is hoping to solve problems together and reckons of Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s personal assistance.
