On March 23, in Minsk, participants of the trilateral contact group on the settlement of the situation in the east of Ukraine discussed the possibility of exchanging Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko for persons detained by the Ukrainian side, said Martin Saydik, Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman in the contact group.
However, the diplomat would not talk in detail about this, BelaPAN informs.
It should be noted that on the eve of the meeting of the contact group, the representative of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic Denis Pushylin issued a statement in which he noted that the situation with the verdict for Nadiya Savchenko has nothing to do with the Minsk talks. A spokesman for the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov, said on March 22 that Russia will act in accordance with the legislation of the country in question of the possibility of exchanging the condemned to 22 years Nadiya Savchenko. "The decision may be taken only by the president. I cannot say what decision it will be yet," said Peskov, commenting on the words of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on the possible exchange of Savchenko for two Russian citizens.
Earlier, Poroshenko said that Kyiv is ready to give Moscow two Russian servicemen detained in Ukraine in exchange for Savchenko.
