President: Lithuania to continue pushing for transparent construction of Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant

Vilnius will continue demanding that the Belarusian authorities build the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant in a transparent manner and allow international experts to inspect the project and study its impact on the environment, Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite said on Tuesday, speaking at a meeting with Andrius Pulokas, the newly appointed Lithuanian ambassador to Belarus.

Issues relating to energy, economy, migration and security were discussed at the meeting, according to the Lithuanian president's press office. Ms. Grybauskaite said that despite a recent fall in Lithuanian exports to Belarus, the latter "remains an important economic partner."

She emphasized the importance of attracting Belarusian IT professionals to Lithuania and defending the interests of Lithuanian businesses in Belarus.
Born in 1971, Mr. Pulokas served as director of the Lithuanian foreign ministry’s Consular Department when he was appointed to the position of ambassador in Belarus this past July.

He succeeds Evaldas Ignatavicius, who had served as ambassador to Belarus since 2013.
