“Chernobyl Path“ is allowed


Minsk City Executive Committee authorized the holding of "Chernobyl Path - 2012" rally in its full capacity. One of the rally's applicants Dennis Sadowski the executive secretary of the organizing committee of the party "Belarusian Christian Democracy" (BCD) told BelaPAN.

According to him, this morning the Minsk city executive committee was visited by the applicants, where they were handed a written authorization for holding on April 26 in Minsk this annual event. The organizers have also discussed with representatives of city administration the technical issues related to the conduct of the march and rally.

Application for holding the event was filed on April 10. The organizers were asked to allow the procession between 18.30 to 19.30 from the building of the National Academy of Sciences continuing on Surganova street till the park People's Friendship (at Bangalor Square), where they intend to spend the hour lasting mourning rally.

The event is planned to finish with laying flowers to the church in honor of the Mother of God Search of Perishing", located near the park.

Earlier, the organizers of "Chernobyl Path - 2012" stated they intend to conduct it "under the sign of demand to abolish the nuclear power plant construction in Astravets". In addition to the environmental themes in the "Chernobyl Path" other pressing issues will be also raised, the main among them is the release of political prisoners.

"Chernobyl Path" has been held annually since 1988 in Minsk in the format of the procession, which usually ends with a rally of democratic forces' representatives. The exception was 2011, when the city authorities banned the rally for the first time in its traditional form.
