Belarus will develop a new law in the field of Internet control, said Aliaksandr Lukashenka on April 21 in response to questions from members of parliament. Prior to this, the President delivered a message to the Belarusian people and the National Assembly.
"We want the Internet controlled by some international organization according to certain rules. If it does not happen, then each country will defend its national interests independently. Now Ananich (Information Minister Liliya Ananich -.. Euroradio) and others are dealing with the issue for me. I need to see legislative initiatives," said Lukashenka.
A few days ago, the head of Belarus met with Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union Houlin Zhao. During the meeting, he said that Belarus supports the establishment of a new global mechanism to regulate the Internet. According to Lukashenka, Chinese regulatory experience may come useful for Belarus.
