CEC comments on parliamentary election date

The Central Election Committee has explained when the parliamentary election will be held. According to the law, parliamentary elections must be appointed at least four months in advance and should be held at least 30 days before the previous MP’s mandates expire.

The previous parliamentary election was held on September 23, 2012 and the first meeting of MPs was held on October 18, 2012. It means that the lower chamber’s powers will expire on October 17, 2016 and the election must be held before September 17.

All elections are held on Sundays in Belarus which means that the last possible election day is September 11, 2016.

Parliamentary elections must be appointed by the President at least four months in advance and should be held at least 30 days before the previous MP’s mandates expire. The powers of the Council of the Republic will expire on October 18. It means that new senators will not be elected before June 18 and that the elections will be held by September 18.
