The Movement for Freedom has appealed to state telecommunications company Beltelecom and the information ministry over the Russian government’s decision to blacklist a number of Ukrainian websites, which are now unavailable to residents of not only Russia but also Belarus.

The Belarusians who wanted to visit those sites saw the messages, “Access to the site is restricted under the legislation of the Russian Federation” and, “The site may contain information whose distribution is prohibited in the territory of Russia,” according to the press office of the Movement for Freedom.

In its letter to Beltelecom and the information ministry, the Movement asks them to explain why Russian authorities’ decisions should apply to Belarusian Internet users and to take measures to restore access to the blacklisted sites.
