Tatiana Novikova in prison, left without necessary medicine


Coordinator of the Belarusian Anti-nuclear Campaign Tatiana Novikova, who was detained for no apparent reason on July 18 in Minsk, was sentenced to five days of administrative arrest.

Together with the Russian nuclear physicist Andrei Ozharovsky they were going to pass to the Russian Embassy in Minsk the open appeal against the signing of the general contract for the construction of nuclear power plant during the visit of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

Last year, Tatiana Novikova underwent several operations and chemotherapy, her thyroid gland was removed. She cannot live without special medicine. Friends and colleagues of Tatiana doubt she will receive proper medical examination on her arrival to the Akrestina Detention Center. She might not sustain five days in prison.

Russian Anti-nuclear Movement's activist Andrei Ozharovsky, who was arrested along with Tatiana, was sentenced to 10 days of administrative arrest.
