Dwellers of Baranavichy Forbidden to Look Out of Windows Ahead of Lukashenka’s Visit

An Ice Arena will be opened in Baranavichy in the evening December 29. Alyaksandr Lukashenka is expected to take part in the event.

As "Salidarnasts" learnt from Baranavichy dwellers, who live close to the Ice Arena, there are a great many of road traffic officers in the center of the town and near the sports complex.

"Road traffic officers stand along the central street every 50–100 meters. They also stand at turns to yards. A few short-haired men in black can also be seen. I saw about a hundred of soldiers behind the Ice Arena," Alyaksandr, a Baranavichy dweller, said.

According to him, citizens are not forbidden to walk. A few fishermen fish on the lake near the Ice Arena. But the situation is likely to change by 3 p.m.

"A militiaman came to me and showed a paper saying we mustn’t look out of windows today from 3:00 until 9:00 p.m. Then he wrote down my surname," Ihar, whose apartment is situated near the sports center.

A recommendation "not to look out of windows" is not the only one. According to Interx-press, traffic along Savetsky Avenue, where the Ice Arena is situated, and Streets Zhukau, Savetskaya, Vaikova, and Churylina will be restricted on December 29. The road traffic inspection recommended the citizens to refrain from unnecessary trips and use public transport. Officer of Baranavichy road traffic inspection asked car owners not to leave their cars in Zhukau Street and Savetsky Avenue (including territory in the yards). In other case, vehicles will be towed, they say.

Hunters in Baranavichy, living along Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s supposing route, were seized their guns. As the Baranavichy militia department explains, militiamen fulfilled orders of the security service of the Belarusian president.
