The Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus has sentenced the accused of the terrorist attack in Minsk subway on April 11, 2011 Dmitry Konovalov and Vladislav Kovalev to capital punishment - the death penalty.
The sentence is final and without appeal.
At the request of victims, the judge has fully read out the verdict.
As the presiding judge Fedortsov has stated, while studying the criminal case, "the court have been more and more convinced, that Dmitry Konovalov and Vladislav Kovalev constitute exceptional danger to society, and an exceptional measure of punishment must be applied to them".
We remind, Kovalev didn't admit his guilt and stated about pressure from the investigation side. Konovalov refused to testify in court and to make the last statement.
Deputy Prosecutor General Aleksei Stuk asked to sentence the accused to death penalty - to be shot. Against the death penalty of Konovalov and Kovalev there is the signature-gathering campaign via Internet. The petition is signed by more than 40 000 people.
