Belarus ranked first in the world in terms of per capita alcohol consumption in a report unveiled by the World Health Organization (WHO) on May 12.
Belarus topped the list with an annual per capita consumption of 17.5 liters of alcohol, followed by Moldova with 16.8 liters, Lithuania with 15.4 liters and Russia with 15.1 liters.
The annual per capita consumption was 12.5 liters in Poland, 12.3 liters in Latvia, 13.9 liters in Ukraine, 10.3 liters in Estonia, 7.7 liters in Georgia, 11.8 liters in Germany, 11.6 liters in the UK and 9.2 liters in the United States.
According to the report, Belarus' men consume 27.5 liters of alcohol on average every year, while women's per capita consumption is 9.1 liters.
Worldwide, 3.3 million deaths in 2012 were due to harmful use of alcohol, said the report.
