Belarus on January 14 made a sixth payment of SDR 64.7 million ($99 million) to repay the principal amount of the International Monetary Fund’s stand-by loan, announced the finance ministry.
Belarus has to pay a total of SDR 1,570 million ($1,610 million) in 2013 to repay the loan.
Under the repayment schedule, Belarus will have to pay a total of SDR 892.39 million ($1,370 million) in 2014 and SDR 55.17 million ($85 million) in 2015, with the last payment to be made on May 1, 2015.
The IMF disbursed five loan tranches totaling around $3.46 billion under the stand-by arrangement in 2009 and 2010 to support the government’s stabilization program.
In 2011, Belarus paid interest totaling SDR 54.7 ($83.5 million). Last year Belarus made five payments totaling SDR 303.5 million ($465.2 million) to repay the principal amount.
According to the finance ministry, Belarus’ payments in 2013 to service the nation’s external public debt will total $3.1 billion.
