According to the plans of the Belarusian government, the minimum wage in the country is going to be no less than Br1 million (about $116 at the current exchange rate of the National Bank) in 2012. As stated by Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Rumas on November 30, the issue of base wage rate increase is going to be considered in the first week of December.
Sergei Rumas said the information on the amount of wage rate increase, as well as the date, will be announced after the relevant decision, BelTA informs.
The minimum wage was set within the minimum consumer budget - Br460 thousand, which is subject to indexation.
So, against excessively high consumer price index, the minimum wage for October was indexed at 86.1%. The monthly minimum wage in October was slightly over Br856 thousand (about $97), the hourly minimum wage - a little over Br5 thousand (about $0.6).
According to the National Statistics Committee in October 2011, the monthly salary in Belarus, given the rise in prices of goods and services, was 5.2% lower than in September. In January-October 2011 real wages were higher by 5.9% than in the first ten months of 2010, reported the National Statistics Committee. The average wage increased by 2.6% (Br57.9 thousand, or $6.85) in October compared to September.
