Belarusians' average salary used to be $231 in 2011

In 2011, the nominal average monthly salary of workers in Belarus amounted to Br1.92 million (about $231.1 at the official rate of the National Bank on January 24, 2012). These are the findings of the National Statistics Committee of Belarus. At the same time, the real wages (adjusted for the increase in consumer prices of goods and services) rose by 1.3% in 2011 compared with 2010.

Real wages increased by 15.3% in December 2011 against November 2011.

In December 2011, nominal average monthly wage of employees amounted to Br2.87 million ($345.4), having increased by 18% or $52.5 compared to November 2011.

According to the National Statistics Committee, the industry average wages amounted to Br3.41 million in December last year, while in construction - Br3.06 million, in transport and communications - Br3.23 million, in agriculture, hunting and forestry - Br1.83 million.

In education, the average salary amounted to Br2 million in December 2011, including teachers - Br2.22 million and the faculty - Br3.74 million.

Salaries of health workers and those in social services amounted to Br2.14 million in December 2011, including health care - Br2.2 million. The average salary of doctors was Br3.45 million and nurses - Br2.05 million.

Meanwhile, the minimum wage in Belarus amounted to Br1 million on January 1, 2012 (about $120 at the current fx rate of the National Bank). The minimum hourly wage equals Br5.930.
