Belarus cancels obligatory passport data registration for exchange operations

The requirement to register passport data of individuals acquiring foreign currency has been abolished in Belarus. The corresponding decree was signed by the President on 29 May, TUT.BY writes.
The new regulation will come into force after the official publication of the document.
“The decree is designed to liberalize exchange controls and simplify money exchange procedures,” the presidential press service informed.
The obligatory presentation of an identity document to buy currency was introduced in Belarus in October 2011.
As the press service said, it had been adopted as part of a set of measures to achieve a uniform exchange rate of the Belarusian ruble.
