Poland is interested to recruit more Belarusian workers for periods of one to six months, Polish Ambassador Konrad Pawlik told reporters in Minsk on Tuesday.
As many as 7,900 Belarusians legally work in Poland at present, compared with over 600,000 Ukrainians and some 9,000 Moldovans, said the diplomat. "Based on these data we see that the demand for foreign workers is rising amid falling unemployment in Poland," he noted.
The ambassador said that Belarusians could fill jobs both in the agricultural and other sectors of the Polish economy.
The embassy is approached every day by Polish companies seeking to hire Belarusians, according to Mr. Pawlik. "We see that there is a huge demand in Poland [for workforce], including for Belarusian workers," he said.
Lukasz Holubowski, president of Poland's Agricultural Market Agency, said that Warsaw and Minsk were in talks about a scheme to bring Belarusian seasonal farm workers to Poland. "We are ready to accept workforce from Belarus," he said. "We are ready to guarantee work conditions, employee benefits and decent pay."
