This may be due to falling wages. The figures came from National Bank.
According to National Bank statistics, in the second quarter of 2016 (April-June), personal remittances of our compatriots from abroad amounted to 151.7 million dollars, which is almost 12% less than in the same period last year. However, compared to the first quarter of 2016, the amount of transfers increased by almost $ 15 million.
People are alo sending less money from Belarus abroad — in the second quarter, they sent $ 26.3 million. A year ago, the corresponding amount was $ 37.1 million.
Personal transfers are not only the amounts that came through electronic payments, but also money, goods transported across the border. Since there is no customs border between Belarus and Russia, the National Bank statistics is incomplete.
Majority of Belarusians working abroad are based in Russia and Poland.
