Movement “For Freedom”

The movement “For Freedom” was officially registered in December 2008. Its goals are democratization of civil and political life in Belarus, strengthening of independence, development of civil society, protection of human rights and gradual integration in the European Union. The main areas of activities of the movement “For Freedom” are: informative, educational, human rights, analysis and cultural.

Milinkevich Alexander Vladimirovich was born on July 25, 1947 in Grodno.

He served as a docent at the University of Grodno (1994-2000); reached the rank of vice-mayor of Grodno. Specialized on the issues of education, history, religion, mass-media, international relations, sports, protection of historical heritage (1990-1996).

In October 2005 he was chosen by the United Democratic Forces of Belarus as the single candidate of the opposition in the presidential elections of 2006.

In December 2006 he was awarded the Sakharov Prize by the European Parliament.
