The reason behind the disrupted operation of the Minsk metro system on 26 February was a short text message from a passenger, BelTA learned from representatives of the Minsk City Police Department and the State Security Committee of Belarus.
A female student approached a Minsk metro security officer in the afternoon. She reported seeing a passenger texting a message about the intention to trigger an explosive device in the metro system.
Officers of the Minsk City Police Department and the State Security Committee of Belarus have managed to promptly identify the passenger using modern technologies and apprehend him. The necessary legal proceedings are underway.
Before the passenger was apprehended, the law enforcement agencies were busy carrying out the set of measures designed as a response to such situations. While the metro system was being swept, the city authorities allocated additional surface transport vehicles to keep passenger service in the city operating smoothly. The operation of the Minsk metro system was resumed at 17:20 (UTC/GMT+3).
